About him
After five years of widowhood I am looking to meet someone very special in the hope that a loving and fulfilling relationship might evolve out of mutual attraction, friendship and romance.
I am retired from a varied professional career in Criminal Justice – both vocational and academic - that took me to many parts of Europe and the wider world including five years living and working on the island of Mauritius – well someone had to do it!
I am a genuine, decent, sociable and well-educated man with a resilient zest for life. I believe that I can bring much to a relationship including kindness, affection, temperamental stability, rock-solid support, an abundance of dormant Celtic ardour and oodles of laughter, playfulness and fun. My humour is rather dry, observational and sometimes very silly.
Keeping fit and active are important to me and I am in pretty good shape for my advancing years. I exercise regularly at the gym and go hiking, sea fishing and modest fell climbing.I love mountain views and being by the sea.
I also love the comforts and attractions of my village home where I happily spend time gardening / growing my own, cooking, entertaining friends or just relaxing with my two great passions – books and music.
More generally my interests span dinning out, going to the cinema, theatre, concerts and the occasional music festival; selectively visiting museums and exhibitions and rather compulsively browsing around antique shops and markets.
I have always found travelling very seductive and relish the prospect of holiday planning and breaking new ground with a kindred spirit.
Otherwise I keep abreast of current affaires, avidly follow rugby union (my main sport in much younger days) and I am always ready for a game of table tennis, scrabble or darts. Oh, and far from least I am big on family get-togethers and on being a zany step - granddad to four gorgeous under ten-year olds.

Preferably pleasing on the eye with an easy smile and ready laughter; reasonably slim, fit and adventurous; intelligent, articulate, curious and open-minded; homely and outgoing; genial, romantic and loving and most importantly, prepared to put up with me.
Compatibility in values and life priorities will be important and some parallel tastes in music, literature and other interests a bonus – particularly the music.
