About her
I'm an active, lively, funny, clever (middle-aged) lady who has many interests, from narrow-boating to gardening, from art and poetry to singing and walking - not all of these at the same time, though. I like cooking, reading, music, listening to drama on the radio, watching programmes like 'Shetland' and history docu-dramas on television, films, theatre … that'll do. I'm a semi-retired academic, so I spend a lot of time by myself at my computer and buried in obscure texts, trying to write books and articles. I like to go the gym - well, I'm not sure if I like it, to be honest - but I do go regularly, and to Pilates which I definitely enjoy. I also like eating out, which might destroy some of the gym benefits - but it doesn't show!
It's much harder for a busy woman in her sixties, finding herself unwillingly alone, to meet a man of similar age - there are 5 women my age looking for every one likely man - he has the pick! So I've put pictures I like on my profile - my cats, garden, places I like, that sort of thing - because, let's face it, I might just as well … love me, love my crocuses … or whatever.

I'd like to meet someone who is as interested in as many things as I am, who reads a lot, who questions assumptions and isn't afraid to think differently. I'd like to find out about their views on painters, poets, music, plays, books and everyday life and to visit the places they like as well as take them to my favourite haunts. I'd like to share a walk quietly, or go for a ramble with a group of rowdy ramblers, to share a bowl of chips, or to sit in the theatre and enjoy the experience. My ideal companion will have a sense of humour, be very intelligent, well-read, kind, gentle and honest. He'll be happy to leave me to my own devices, and equally happy to suggest an evening out. I've put an age range, but (see above) I don't really mind, given the limited field. He mustn't be a smoker, drinker (occasional is fine), too much of a carnivore to accept a sprout or a salad, or any kind of fundamentalist or absolutist.
