About him
I regard myself as somewhat introverted until I really get to know someone, but then I become much more outgoing. I am rather conservative, definitely do not like body piercing/tattoos. I play croquet and like to walk most days to keep fit and active. I like classical music, although I'm not musical. I enjoy all forms of travel, including cruising both river and ocean, and although I have travelled quite extensively during the past 50 years I have a wish-list of places I still want to visit, both in UK and overseas. I lived in Nigeria during the 1970's. although I first went to Nigeria just before independence in 1960 and worked there for 18 months, during which time my first son was born in a small mission hospital. I returned for a further 6 month spell just as the Nigerian civil war started in 1967. Since covid restrictions were lifted I have travelled over 50,000 miles to 4 continents visiting friends and family, but I do miss having a companion to share my experiences, since my wife died in late 2019 after just over 60 years of very happy marriage. I am a member of the National Trust, u3a and the Arts Society. I read, mainly fiction, and enjoy puzzles such as crosswords/sudoku, and prize competitions which require some thought. I am not in the least bit 'woke' and despair of the increasing tendency to decry historical facts. One might say the older I get the more like Victor Meldrew I become, but “I don't beli..eee ..ve it”! My favourite song is September Song, many have sung this but I think one of the best versions is by Sarah Vaughan.

I hope to meet a lady with a love of travel who would be an ideal companion to visit destinations, old and new and to share all the experiences travel can bring. She would be fun-loving and sociable, fit and active, with an enquiring mind. But apart from travelling/cruising it would be so pleasant to have a friend to meet for coffee or lunch, for days out and with whom I could visit museums, galleries, NT properties etc which are experiences so much more enjoyable when shared. She and I would both feel comfortable in each other's company - mutual compatibility for want of a better description - and be like-minded in our outlook on life. Yet each should feel able to pursue individual activities, such as family events, and not be tied to each other's metaphorical apron strings.
