About him
I suppose I fall into the category, shared by many of my male friends, of “grumpy old man” but I have a good sense of humour and I think I would be described by friends as honest and good natured. I have coped with single life quite well and certainly better than I expected but I am a bit disorganized and I miss companionship in the evenings, for social events and days out and holidays.
I retired at 65 but I continued to work part time on a self employed basis until the COVID epidemic; it kept me busy, the brain active and the fees were welcome. We moved to Sussex only 2 years ago to be closer to our daughters but it meant I was rather isolated away from old friends when my wife died, but the girls have tried to keep me busy, and have encouraged me to take up water colour painting again. My other interests include gardening (albeit from necessity and with very limited skill), maintaining my classic cars and an old motor boat, and I am called upon from time to time to help out with property repairs and renovations on my two daughters’ homes outside Brighton.
I don’t think I could describe myself as a “pipe and slippers” man as I really find it difficult to do nothing, nevertheless on a winters evening I can happily sit in front of an open fire and enjoy a glass of red wine, good conversation or a Rachmaninov piano concerto. I am by no means an expert on classical music but I do enjoy a fair cross section of composers. I keep up with current affairs, and I sometimes need reminding that there are not many subjects upon which I don’t have an opinion!
I am interested in, but not fanatical about, Rugby, Soccer and Motor Racing and several times a year I take a car to charity “track days” at motor racing circuits around the UK; this is really not as sad as it sounds; a meal with friends at the hotel on the night before and after the track day is as much fun as on track, and wives and partners seem to enjoy the event and often drive on the track and the trip can occasionally be turned into a two or three day break.

What am I looking for in an ideal match? I really have no idea other than she must be reasonably intelligent, with a bright and sunny disposition and excellent sense of humour. I think I would however recognise an ideal match if I met her
Perhaps her interests and activities might be different to mine but that is no matter if each could compliment the other;
As for a deal breaker, I am not keen on tattoos and I discourage smoking.
