I decided to write a completely new profile narrative; a piece that is real!
Part 1
Like all the women and men on this site, we are looking for that elusive someone. In today’s society we quite often don’t have a choice but to join a dating site, to meet, we hope, someone who we can share the rest of our life with…. Oops sorry don’t jump the gun. Someone we can be friends with first which could or perhaps ‘maybe lead into something else’.
Of course, there are still opportunities other than signing up to a dating site, sitting at the bar with your single friends as your other not-single-friends are at home doing much more interesting things like watching football or mowing the lawn. Or perhaps you go to a club on a Friday night, where everyone is either 18 or if they are my age (cough) downright weird or cringy!
So we put our pictures up with all the enthusiasm of a waiter working on Christmas Day, you are there but you don’t really want to be there. So without the help of a make-up artist (if you identify as female - I have to be careful) or if you are anything like me, avoid the camera like the plague, and have to trawl through your pictures on your laptop. You find yourself digging up random images that don’t quite reflect the real you. To the men who are still reading this - well done. But, please take note regarding your photographs, remember the background of your picture is as important as you! We women look at the details.

Then we post these pictures on our profile, reluctantly. Preferring ones without friends, yes I do have friends, but I don’t want an interested party trying to work out which is me in a group picture. Guys this is where you need to take note - just you in the picture, please! Otherwise, we are left guessing. Worse still you might arrange to meet the said person in the picture who just happens to not be the interested party but his father, his son, or best friend!! So embarrassing for everyone.
Also, NO picture is not good! One guy I had noticed (why I noticed I don’t know) but the outrageous request on his profile:
picture required - ‘non-negotiable’ and yet he had NO PICTURE of himself!!
The thing is those holding back on pictures, eventually say OK… I will send you a picture, but just to you. What is your WhatsApp number? So you think, ok why not. NO NO NO. 1. He/she now has your number and 2. He/she looks like Nosferatu/Frankenstein’s bride on a good day! So then you have to politely say, er sorry you are not my type!! Eeeek.
So, it’s a hornets' nest really, but here we are none-the-less.
