About him
I am fit, healthy and active, and love being outdoors in countryside, parks and gardens.
I am hoping to find someone special to share my life and, I hope, to find love again.
Friendly and interested, I like to talk, listen and discuss; but I am not gregarious, and prefer small groups to large gatherings. I am happily self-reliant and capable. I try to be sensitive and empathetic, I value honesty and integrity, and treat serious matters seriously. I like to have fun, to laugh and to be funny, playful and a bit ridiculous at times (but only when appropriate, of course).
My favourite activities are cycling, walking and playing tennis every week, which are both sociable and energetic and keep me reasonably fit. My garden is a passion - inner city, informal and wildlife friendly. A joy to behold in summer, it keeps me grounded and sane.
Music is important – I listen all the time at home, and I regularly attend concerts, opera, theatre and ballet. I like to read: mainly modern literature and some poetry; also popular science, history, sociology, politics and economics. Since retiring, I have learned to draw and make decorative glassware.
I have happy memories of many cultural and wild-life holidays around the world, and the photos and art decorate my house. Also, many lovely holidays in southern Europe. It would be lovely to find someone and resume travels together. And I can still ski, although not so well now.
Respectful politics, democracy, compassion and decency are important to me. I'm moderate centre left, loathe "populism" and intolerance, and hold socially liberal and inclusive views. I cook proper meals, eat healthily and drink in moderation.

I would like to meet an attractive woman with vitality and a love of outdoors, gardens, music and culture, and a desire to share this with me. Someone who keeps themselves fit and healthy (as far as we can as we age). They would be kind, honest and tolerant, and broadly share my liberal views. They would be affectionate, and willing to show this. And take pleasure in walking and talking. A desire and ability to travel, at least in Europe, would be good.
Ideally a soulmate and life partner. But I am also open to friendship and companionship over shared interests and values.
And someone I can learn from and widen my knowledge, understanding and horizons.
