About him
Fairly fit, very active, with a passion for nature, beautiful wild scenery. I love hillwalking and just absorbing the views and listening to birdsong. Build is formerly athletic, and slightly ropy around the edges, and not as quick over 50m as I used to be. Still enjoy playing cricket and I love wild swimming. That feeling of plunging into the sea on a wild coast, and bumping into the odd seal. Or being checked out by a kingfisher (both true!). My other hobbies are water colour painting, choral singing, reading, and being out and about in the countryside. Not very good at ironing, but am a reasonably good cook (stews a speciality), even if I say so. My much missed old dog enjoyed the leftovers at any rate and he lived till 17. I rest my case. I enjoy many different kinds of music, from opera to folk.
Professionally, am very content and fulfilled. Teach/research at university, and enjoy trying to inspire students. I travel extensively with work, often to fairly wild places, and I enjoy going where few others have been before, but am increasingly drawn to explore my own country much more too. Not much beats a pub nosh after a day of trudging along public footpaths moaning that the signs have been taken down, and snooping enviously at rural retreats, especially those with sea views.
I'm outgoing, emotionally warm (Celtic) and have a dry sense of humour. Would love to meet someone like-minded, who enjoys seeing the funny side of things just as well as reflecting on matters more serious. Balance is everything.
