About him
Formerly an academic scientist, now recently retired.
I moved to a new town last summer and want to extend my friendship group and hopefully find a partner for a closer relationship. Friends say I'm warm-hearted, funny, and good company. I am fairly active, and I like cycling and more recently have started Pilates. I have a creative side too: I am a very good guitarist, and taught guitar for a couple of years, until recently when I moved. I'm laid-back, and have an open mind about most things; I'm not into politics but I'd say I'm on the centre-left - the sort of person who is in principle disinclined to support fox hunting, but not such that I'd chain myself to the railings outside Parliament to make the point.

I'd like to meet a funny, chatty woman, who is interesting and intelligent and who would enjoy my company for activities like day trips to London to visit galleries, long walks with a pub at the end, Italian meals - even ones in Italy would be OK occasionally. If you would say you are boisterously hearty and liable to shout things like "I can't stand lily-livered liberals!" at the TV when someone suggests it might not be a great idea to bomb somewhere at the other side of the planet for no good reason, then we probably wouldn't get on. Not that I'm particularly lily-livered, but given the option I tend to choose the quiet life rather than get into a Clash of the Titans.
Ideally you are someone who has a flexible schedule (no longer bound by the 9-5! Perhaps you are retired or part-time) and you are looking forward to the next chapter in life. You probably live in my area, and enjoy an active social life.
If you were open to the occasional bike tour around Holland (don't worry, I am very slow) - this would be an added bonus!

Ian is a perfect combination - equally happy to hang out reading a book or watching a movie as he is hitting the dance floor at a gig!
His kindness and empathy for others makes him a brilliant friend, sounding board and someone to turn to when life doesn't go according to plan - and if you are lucky enough to become someone he loves, you will feel like you are the most important person in the world and know that he always has your back.
Ian's quiet intellect means you can enjoy all manner of discussions, and most of the time get a very knowledgeable response to the most wild questions... he is never short of insight into a topic.
I should mention that he is a brilliant cook and can rustle up tasty and healthy meals, and is also a pleasure to cook with. He is a brilliant travel companion, as he will do his research on the destination whilst remaining very relaxed about how time is spent - and in the past has been open to some unusual holidays too (Uzbekistan, Vietnam and cycling 1000 miles through Germany).
